          what your donation buys
$_______  Caribbean Sea  Fund our area of greatest need. Let Hands direct your gift to selected schools, libraries, reading programs, and youth centers that are ready for development — and waiting to engage children who are eager to read and learn.
$2,500  Trade Winds  Refurbish the existing library of a primary school or secondary school, from new paint to shelves and floor tiles to 400 great new books, and help turn it into a vibrant borrowing library that serves students, teachers, and the local community.
$1,000  Calypso King  Selection of 65 durable (library binding) hardcover non-fiction books for a primary school (grades K to 6, ages 5 to12) or secondary school (grades 7 to 11, ages 13 to 17). These books are packed with up-to-date information that educates, informs, and opens the door to a wider world.
$500  Carnival Queen  Forty hardcover non-fiction books for a primary or secondary school — informational books that help children learn to read, and then read to learn.
$250  Steel Pan Band  Selection of 35 great children’s titles from well-regarded Caribbean niche publishers — when Caribbean kids can “see themselves” in books, it helps them get hooked on reading.
$100  Coral Reef  Selection of 50 pleasure-reading books — from Goosebumps to Diary of a Wimpy Kid to Dr. Seuss to Curious George to Twilight — for a selected grade level.
$50  Rainforest  Selection of 10 Coretta Scott-King Award winners — such as Patchwork Quilt and Martin’s Big Words — for primary school students.
$25  Mango Tree  A half-dozen high interest/low reading level books — from Captain Underpants to Ricky Ricotta — that stoke the imaginations of reluctant readers.
$10  Cocopalm  Four great books from Bill Cosby’s Little Bill series or the Hey Lil’ D! series, or other irresistible reading for grades K to 3.

about your donation
Eighty-five percent of your donation to Hands Across the Sea, Inc. goes directly to Hands' programs and specific Hands Wish Lists that you designate through the PayPal interface. If you do not have a specific school, library, or community reading program in mind, we will allocate the funds to fulfill current Wish Lists of our Caribbean Literacy and School Support (CLASS) program. We compile the Hands Wish Lists through requests from U.S. Peace Corps volunteers, school principals, community leaders, and NGOs working to improve literacy and education in the English-speaking Eastern Caribbean. Your gift will be applied toward providing great books and much-needed teaching resources for students, teachers, libraries, community reading programs, and after-school youth centers.
