New books from Hands Across the Sea are helping to turn Caribbean school and community libraries into vibrant, exciting, full-color places to read, learn, and explore the world. Your tax-deductible support (choose from among 100 adoptable 2013/2014 Hands Wish Lists projects) gives Caribbean children access to great new books — and to literacy, the gift that lasts a lifetime.

Four great books from Bill Cosby’s Little Bill series or the Hey Lil’ D! series, or other irresistible reading books for grades K to 3.


Mango Tree  $25
A half-dozen high interest/low reading level books — from Captain Underpants to Ricky Ricotta — that stoke the imaginations of reluctant readers.


Rainforest  $50
Selection of 10 Coretta Scott-King Award winners — such as Patchwork Quilt and Martin’s Big Words — for primary school students.


Coral Reef  $100
Selection of 50 pleasure-reading books — from Goosebumps to Diary of a Wimpy Kid to Dr. Seuss to Curious George to Twilight — for a targeted grade level.


Steel Pan Band  $250
Selection of 35 hardcover titles from well-regarded Caribbean niche publishers — when Caribbean kids can “see themselves” in books, it helps them get hooked on reading.


Carnival Queen  $500
Forty hardcover non-fiction books for a primary or secondary school — informational books that help children learn to read,and then read to learn.


Calypso King  $1,000
Selection of 65 durable (library binding) non-fiction books for a primary school (grades K to 6, ages 5 to12) or secondary school (grades 7 to 11, ages 13 to 17). These books are packed with up-to-date information that educates, informs, and opens the door to the world.


Trade Winds  $2,500
Refurbish the existing library of a primary school or secondary school, from new paint to shelves and floor tiles to 400 great new books, and help turn it into a vibrant borrowing library that serves students, teachers, and the local community.
