We've
shipped over 10,000 books and 32 boxes of teachers' supplies
to Caribbean schools!
 |
Hit
the road! With the help of donated logistics services
from AIT Worldwide,
Hands Across the Sea sent over 10,000 books for schoolkids
to the Caribbean this fall.
|
Away they go! Thanks to you, generous
Hands supporters, we've reached a record level of donations
to our Caribbean
Literacy and School Support (CLASS) program:
more than 10,000 books for pre-school through high school students!
In addition to that, we've shipped 32 boxes of classroom materials
pens, pencils, paper, dictionaries, maps, art supplies,
teaching software, and much more for teachers at the
schools listed below. All of this was made possible through
your cash and in-kind donations to Hands and your help sorting
books and packing boxes for the Caribbean. Don't miss our brand-new
Hands Photo Album 2,
featuring photos of the high-energy "Summer/2009"
Hands volunteers, and the very happy teachers in the Caribbean
receiving their teaching supplies! And please take a moment
to see your name and those of fellow Hands supporters on our
Hands Donors page.
We extend a heartfelt "thank you"
to Connie MacSweeney and Ladybug Bookstore in Dartmouth, Massachusetts,
who so generously opened up her store for Hands's use as a
shipment depot and book packing zone: Connie, you are awesome!
And we couldn't have
done this without without Matt Pollock
at Harte-Hanks,
who palletized the 32 boxes of teachers' supplies at Harte-Hanks'
warehouse in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts; or without Ray
Vargo at AIT Worldwide,
who shipped books and supplies to Tropical Shipping in New Jersey
and to our partner, Boaters
for Books, in Florida. Kathy Oberle and her team at
BFB will load the books into a Tropical
Shipping container headed to the West Indies. Finally,
it's our pleasure to give special recognition to Louisiana Dubique,
president of the Roseau chapter of the Dominica Lion's Club,
who shepherded 28 boxes of school supplies through Customs and
into the waiting hands of teachers on the island of Dominica.
Excellent work, Louisiana! Be sure to check out the Hands
Photo Album 2 for photos of all the above.
Want to lend a hand? You can make a real difference!
It's easy and rewarding to lend a hand
to these island schools. If you'd like to donate books, please

schools and clinics need. Also, don't forget that you can make
a tax-deductible cash contribution to Hands by going to our
Donate page, using the secure
PayPal service. Hands Across the Sea, Inc., is an IRS-registered,

to you for your tax return. Your donation can be any amount,
either via credit card on the Donate

mailing address. Remember
that one hundred percent of your gift goes to the children,
teachers, and schools of the Caribbean
