great tools for raising children's literacy levels...
Tested-and-proven ways to stoke a love of reading in Caribbean kids!

Good intentions are not enough to create a sustainable, high-functioning lending library in a Caribbean school. Sending resources — even when the resources are great books — is not enough. It takes passion, dedication, and hard work on the ground, along with substantial buy-in from school staff, parents, and members of the local community to create a library and stoke a love of reading that will flourish for years to come.

On this page you'll find tested-and-proven methods and materials from education professionals and United States Peace Corps Volunteers who have created sustainable, positive change in Caribbean schools and communities. Part of Hands Across the Sea's Caribbean Literacy and School Support (CLASS) program involves utilizing these successful strategies to raise the literacy levels of Caribbean children. Whether you're a school principal or teacher, a Peace Corps volunteer, or a concerned parent or community member who wants to improve the reading and writing skills of Caribbean kids, we're certain that you'll find something useful on this page.
